Privacy Policy — Notes
Effective and last updated: August 15, 2026
This policy explains how the Notes Android app handles user information.
1. Introduction
mochicut (the "Developer") provides this Privacy Policy to explain how the Notes Android app (the "App") handles user information.
2. Information Collected by the Developer
The App does not include advertising, usage analytics, or crash-reporting SDKs. It does not require an account and does not send note content, personal information, or device information to servers operated by the Developer.
The Developer does not collect, sell, or disclose user information to third parties through the App.
3. Information Accessed and Stored on Your Device
To function as a hierarchical note-taking app, the App accesses notes and folders within a location selected by the user through Android's system folder picker.
- Note contents, file names, folders, and file metadata needed to display, edit, organize, and search the selected folder
- References to the selected folder and recently opened notes
- App settings, such as the display theme and file-naming preferences
- A temporary recovery copy of an edited note while a storage-provider write is pending or has failed
This information is stored on the user's device or by the storage provider selected by the user. Temporary recovery copies are stored in the App's private, non-backed-up storage and are removed after a successful save. The Developer does not have access to these contents.
4. Storage Access
The App uses Android's Storage Access Framework. Android shows the system folder picker, and the user chooses the folder that the App may access. The App does not request Android's "All files access" permission or legacy broad storage permissions.
Android may preserve access to the selected folder so that it remains available after the App restarts. The App uses that access to view, create, edit, rename, move, share, and delete files and folders in response to the user's actions. When the selected folder is changed, the App releases its persisted access to the previous folder.
5. Sharing
When the user chooses to share a note, or opens a non-text file such as a PDF, Android grants temporary read access to an app selected by the user. Information handled by that app or by the selected storage provider is governed by the third party's terms and privacy policy.
6. Backup and Security
Standard app settings may be included in Android backup or device-transfer features, depending on the device settings. Temporary recovery copies are excluded from Android backup. Notes are stored as regular files in the user-selected location and are not encrypted by the App. A storage provider selected by the user may separately sync or back up those files under its own terms. Users should enable appropriate device protections, such as a screen lock and storage encryption.
7. Retention and Deletion
- App settings remain on the device until the user clears the App's data or uninstalls the App.
- A temporary recovery copy is removed after a successful save. If a save cannot complete, it may remain in private app storage until it is recovered, replaced, the App's data is cleared, or the App is uninstalled.
- Notes and folders in the selected location may remain after the App is uninstalled. They can be deleted through the App, the device's file-management tools, or the selected storage provider.
Because the Developer does not collect or retain this information, there is no user data held by the Developer to delete.
8. Changes to This Policy
This policy may be revised when the App's features, applicable laws, or platform policies change. When it is revised, the last-updated date on this page will be changed.
